yay its blankie fort time 🥰🫶🏽
#and we're better than ever now cause we got a big metal rack to dry our clothes on this year#and its the perfect size the attach the blanket to on the one side (with counter weight)#and then on the other side..... well we have a curtain rod hanging above my wife's desk so that's easy enough#and its got some stuff hanging off the bar already to pinch the blanket in there#honestly really impressed with us#ESP bc its all loose enough we shouldnt cause any damage except a couple knocked over items#bunny rambles

absolutely infuriating when an algorithm correctly understands your interests. things etsy thinks i want to buy:
earrings shaped like fish: correct but i am very picky
vintage fabric, quilts, and patterns: i window shop often, fair
WOOL BLANKETS: yes. and also i have actually bought. several of these. sorry for blankie boy crimes.
[redacted, spoilers for a plan i have to annoy my bf]: yeah.
headache- and migraine-related novelty stickers. true.
beautiful vintage-style cast iron laundry pulley systems: i want one of these more than almost anything else in the world
#obviously along with a place to install it. but god i want one of these so bad i HATE my drying rack#daydreaming about laundry drying logistics being EASIER!!!

No fic rec list this week guys. Work kicked my ass this past week and I am EXHAUSTED. Next week shouldn't be as busy (I fucking hope), so the fic recs will resume then.
Have a lovely weekend!
#seriously#im so tired#i was getting in early and leaving late#we had to make a lot of product for studies#and there was so much shit that could have gone wrong while making it#i about sobbed when i saw all the jerky we made#sitting in the processing room the next morning after drying#and the air in the smoke house didnt blow the mats off the rack while drying#it had happened before with other mats and i hadn't tested these ones yet#my boss assured me that it wouldn't happen#thank god he was right#anyway#hopefully next week wont be as crazy

being in your 20s is finding out you can't move your body in the ways you could as a child
#this post was brought to you by struggling to climb on my narrow kitchen counter at 12am#so that i could put sticky command hooks on the wall to make my pothos grow above the upper cabinets#instead of directly into my dish drying rack#zip quips

the example people always go for with 'taking things literally' is 'not understanding idioms and metaphors' or 'not understanding sarcasm' and that's frustrating for Me, Specifically, Personally because I am a person who has a lot of social struggles with Taking Things Literally but, crucially, not in that sense. I understand idioms & metaphors just fine and, as someone who's primary special interest is the written word & storytelling, actually am pretty good at them and thrive with them. I miss sarcasm occasionally but catch it most of the time and am often sarcastic myself.
No, my Taking Things Literally is that if you say something to me or give me an instruction, I will Understand It Literally. I will get what you said and not at all what you meant. There are exceptions to this in cases where I've learned the script and even use it myself (e.g. the other day I asked my mum "Is this Not Butter" about a thing, and she replied "Yes but it has buttermilk", because we both understood the real question was "is this the lactose-free spread?" because I was making food for my sister) but in the vast majority of cases, I just. will miss implications and unspoken assumptions. I will just completely miss them, they will not register, I Did Not Know They Were There.
Implications in a narrative? I am on it immediately, this is my bread and butter, I can pull a story apart to get to five layers of subtext & implication & theme like breathing
Reliably understanding that the request "Can you empty the dishwasher?" includes emptying the drying rack which is not physically part of the dishwasher because the real request is "Can you put the clean dishes away?"? Not a chance
#me#fortunately I know a lot of Techy Computer People#so I can go ''you know how if you input a command your computer will do Exactly What You Told It To? my brain works like that'#and then they get it#and that last one is one we've been working on#the request is now usually phrased as ''Can you get the dishes?'' which is mutually understood to be either#''can you put the clean dishes (in both dishwasher & drying rack) away''#or ''can you load the dishwasher & do the handwashing?''#depending on the time of day & which of those tasks needs done#however sometimes my mum & dad do forget and use ''can you empty the dishwasher'' and then later they go ''you didn't get the drying rack''#and I go ''you said dishwasher!! you didn't mention the drying rack!!'' and they go ''okay fair''#ANYWAYS. I AM HAVING SOME. COMMUNICATION DIFFICULTIES THOUGHTS ATM#[squints at this post] [sighs] okay I'm going to add the relevant tag but if this break containment I WILL be turning off reblogs posthaste#bc my activity STILL gets influxes from my last autism post to break containment#actuallyautistic

someday. i won't have to be excited that i saved a whole dollar on laundry
#someone took their stuff out of the dryer 15 minutes early so when i came in to switch my loads over i got 15 free minutes and then#just added 50 more cents to that which is 20 more minutes which got them mostly dry. and anything that couldn't finish drying on the rack#i just put in with the other load that was in for the full hour#bingo bango#only spent uhhh 5 bucks on one hamper instead of 6 🙃🙃🙃🙃

we've only had our new washing machine for four days and I've already done laundry more times than in the past two years combined 🙃
#in the place we lived first the washing machines were in a shared room in the basement#which meant 1. carrying the laundry down three floors and 2. other people (especially the very mean old woman who lived there)#so my husband always did it there#then we moved. but our washing machine got damaged during the move so it started always giving error messages accompanied by the loudest#most horrible beeping#and you had to keep pressing a button to get them to stop#but I found the noise so distressing that again. my husband had to do laundry all the time#but now? oooh I love this stupid washing machine!! the only thing that's stopping me from washing every dirty fabric thing I see is that we#don't have enough drying racks/it's not warm enough for everything to dry that quickly#personal
